Description

Suitability: This Webinar-on-Demand is suitable for new and experienced HLP Leaders and SLT in all phases.

Webinar description: How robust is your identification of High Potential Learners? Does your register accurately reflect the make-up of your school community?  This webinar will look at strategies to improve identification, looking beyond attainment and considering how to reveal learners’ potential if given the right support, challenge and opportunities. The webinar includes ideas for making sure that disadvantaged and disengaged learners are appropriately identified, as well as learners with Dual or Multiple Exceptionality (both high learning potential and SEND) who are often overlooked as their potential can easily be masked by their other needs. It includes a suggested template for an informative register.

Webinar content:

  • Explanation of the research behind Potential Plus UK’s multi-pronged approach to identification
  • The importance of data as a first step of the identification process
  • The importance of nominations in the process of identifying high potential learners
  • Ways to make sure that the school HLP Register is a live, useful document
  • Consideration of the knowledge, skills and information that teachers need to nominate effectively
  • Resources to support identification

Webinar leader: This course is led by Joy Morgan, Potential Plus UK trustee and Schools Adviser. Joy has 43 years' experience of teaching in inner London comprehensive schools. In her latter two schools she had responsibility for High Learning Potential and Professional Development.
